In my studio preparing my preliminary drawing for my original oil painting "Champions Again".

From a very early age, I have always enjoyed nature and viewing the beauty all around me that God has created. From the very first time that my dad took me fishing, I was amazed at all the images that were around me. It is those images that I try to capture in their natural state, as when the light first hits the water and creates dazzling reflections, to the sun rising and painting beautiful colors in the sky. When I paint, I enjoy getting lost in that moment, it is very relaxing and peaceful to me.  It is that moment that I attempt to capture in my paintings and interpret for my viewer to bring them into that same place. It is my hope that the viewer will get the same feeling and have a peace inside and a smile on their face as they view my work.

Just a little more about myself and who I am as an artist, I am mainly self taught, but after painting murals on my parent's living room walls as a child, my mom suggested that I should take art lessons. It was in those first lessons and later through art classes in school, that I realized how much I enjoyed art and painting. Later in high school I was fortunate enough to win an art scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute. I would leave high school football practice and go straight to college art classes, it was very calming to me. In college, I did not pursue an art degree, instead I graduated with a business degree and went to work in Corporate America for over 30 years, and still do to this day. However, art has always been a great passion for me.  It is my hope and prayer to always be able to create art, to pick up a brush and paint what God inspires me to at that moment in time.

Over the years there have been many moments in time that have inspired me to paint, having been an athlete in high school and college, I have enjoyed capturing sporting events on canvas.  I also have a love for music and Jazz that inspires me to capture those moments on canvas.  I also like to paint people and do character studies of people and every day life events.  Also, having grown up in the South, you may notice my southern heritage show up in my artwork from time to time.  Sometimes for fun, I just like to let my imagination go back to when I was a child and create my own whimsical characters and images. Recently, I have been inspired to begin painting more landscapes, seascapes and nautical scenes.

In the future, I hope to continue painting and to one day devote myself full time to creating art.  I hope you, as a viewer, enjoy my art. I feel my ability to create art and to paint is a gift from God, I feel very blessed to have been given a talent to express myself and it is my prayer that God allows me to continue to paint art with the eyes and the heart of that small boy who was full of innocence and in awe of God's creation. I feel that God wants us all to enjoy the beauty around us and I hope that we all continue to experience His Masterworks each day. I have been very blessed to have shared much of my art with my beautiful mom before she passed away. Today, my dad and I still go fishing and I still get those same feelings just like I did as a young boy.  Also, I am very blessed to share my art and life with my wonderful wife Twylla Dawn Burgess.  Again, I hope you enjoy my artwork and don't forget to check back soon to see my new paintings that are always in progress.
